Harris Eleazer Stone,
The name speaks volumes about this rock-solid, steady, sturdy, and thoroughly real man. Harris completed his education close to home in Boston, first at the Latin School, then at Harvard. Immediately thereafter, he served for two years in the United States Army, then enrolled at MIT as a Special Student. Soon thereafter, in 1961, he began working at the Norwood Stamping Co., a manufacturer of metal products, begun by his grandfather in 1903; he has been the companys President since 1984. During the past 30 years, in his off-Island community, Harris has served on the numerous religious and philanthropic Boards and he is currently a member of the Permanent Building Committee in the Town of Westwood where he lives with his wife of 45 years, Esta-Lee, mother of their son, daughter, and almost-5 grandchildren! On Nantucket, Harris and Esta-Lee first lived in a house on Orange Street which had been gutted prior to their purchasing it. A couple of years ago, they bought their house at 9 New Mill Street. With the strong influence of their architect, interior designer, and builder we went through the process of trying to retain the historical character of both the outside and the interior of the house. In addition to setting an example for other prospective owners of historic Nantucket houses, Harris will serve the NPT as Chairman of its Personnel Committee. What better touchstone!?
