John Sussek, came to the NPT serendipitously, courtesy of the Nantucket Land Council, and for that, we are deeply grateful! Here’s the story from John, who lives with his wife, Marie, in the Jabez Bunker c.1725/Prince Gardner 1795 House at 85 Main Street, on the corner of Winter Street, next door to The Coffin School where the Land Council holds its Annual Meeting…so, naturally, “Marie and I host an annual cocktail party for them…it being a great convenience to have their party in our backyard. Two years ago I learned from a member of the Land Council that technically I could build another house in our own backyard and garden. What a dumb idea! But not everyone would agree with me, so I decided to put a restriction on that space as well as the architectural elements inside our house.” John exemplifies passionate stewardship, considers the Island’s historic structures extremely vulnerable, and the NPT as “the only organization that can deal with the threat to them “because of the sincerity and dedication of its active membership.” Luckily for all of us, the planets continued to line up, and when we needed someone for our Board with a strong business and financial background to serve as Treasurer, John just happened to have exactly that. Since 1965, he has been President, CEO, and Principal Shareholder of Boro Lumber & Timber in New York City where he lives and has been a longtime Patron of both the Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In addition, John is the father of six children and four grandchildren.
