Mark Avery,
an architectural designer, already well-known to Nantucket preservationists because of his passionate service as an elected member of the Historic District Commission from 1990 until 2002. (He continues to consult for the HDC in revising their Guidebook and serving with the Design Advisory Council.) recently conceived of and conducted popular tours of Sherburne, the original site of the Town of Nantucket, and taught classes in Preservation Principles at the Community School during the past year.
Mark originally came to Nantucket in 1986 to work for Design Associates and, through a mutual friend (a PI:N student) met his future wife
And, the rest is history! His wife is none other than Emily Avery, a partner in the law firm of Philbrick and Avery and NPTs esteemed attorney. Mark and Emily together have been year-round residents since 1993, currently sharing space with their cat, Smudge!
