Interviewing your Nantucket House is a free service provided to homeowners, realtors and contractors to provide a better understanding of the evolution of the house and its historic fabric. Members of the interview team will visit you at your home for a walk-through. We’ll talk about the history of your house, its architectural style, its special features, details and materials. We can offer recommendations about renovation and addition considerations, and maintenance concerns

Walking Tours offered by the NPT are unique in that they focus on architecture and neighborhoods—their history, development and significance. The publication “A Walk Down Main Street—the Houses and their Histories” also serves as a self-guided history tour of one of Nantucket’s finest residential streets. Tours are offered spring through fall and group tours can be scheduled throughout the year by appointment.

Slide Lectures on the topic of “300 Years of Nantucket Architecture.”

House Markers can be purchased by owners of historic homes to show their pride of ownership and to educate the public about their home’s original date of construction, the builder of record or the original owner. Often the markers provide insight into the occupation of the original owner.

Children’s Programs during the school year and the summer, to heighten children’s awareness of Nantucket architecture and their unique surroundings.

Site Visits for local builders and developers, to illustrate how restoring old houses can be done without the wholesale destruction of their historic interior elements.

Historic Preservation Easements (Covenants), held by the NPT are an important tool for property owners who want to protect their properties for future generations. This tax-favored method of controlling the future development or appearance of historic houses and gardens also provides protection to historic interiors. Each easement is tailored to the individual needs of the historic property owner.

The NPT Newsletter keeps our members up to date on local preservation issues and special events during the entire year.
