 October 30, 2005 NANTUCKET PRESERVATION TRUST SEEKS 2006 DESIGNER SHOW HOUSE Following the successful completion of its 2005 Designer Show House which attracted more than 3,000 visitors, the Nantucket Preservation Trust (NPT) is pleased to announce that it has begun the search for another architecturally significant house as the location for its 2006 Designer Show House. Each year NPT highlights a different aspect of Nantucket’s extraordinary historic architecture by selecting a house that exemplifies one of the many styles from the island’s rich past. Designers are invited to re-paint and re-furnish rooms to show the many ways in which antique houses can be adapted to contemporary living. This popular event provides Nantucket residents and visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the variety of Nantucket’s historic architecture and to support the work of the Nantucket Preservation Trust. The Special Events Committee of the Nantucket Preservation Trust seeks a house that possesses the following qualities for its next Designer Show House to be held in early August of 2006: - interior and exterior architecture that is representative of one or more of the periods of Nantucket’s history including the twentieth century - a location in the historic core of the town within walking distance of the commercial district - vacant interiors that are available for measuring & planning during March & April 2006, and for painting & decorating in May, June & July 2006 - interior spaces and/or garden space that can accommodate a large reception to mark the opening of the Show House At the end of the Show House, all furnishings will be removed and the house will be returned to the owner with its newly re-decorated and repainted interiors. The Nantucket Preservation Trust’s Designer Show House provides the owners of important historic buildings with a rare opportunity to donate something of value to the entire community. For properties listed for sale, the Show House provides exceptional exposure and an opportunity to present the house as seen through the eyes of the Island’s finest designers.
