A Celebration of Nantucket Architecture Exhibit at the Coffin School
With the Egan Institute of Maritime Studies, the Nantucket Preservation Trust co-sponsored "A Celebration of Nantucket Architecture", an exhibit based on the publication of Sea Captains' Houses and Rose-Covered Cottages: The Architectural Heritage of Nantucket Island, by Margaret Moore Booker, Rose Gonnella and Patricia Egan Butler, with principal photography by Jordi Cabre.
Also as part of the exhibit, Jeff Kalin and his family constructed a full-size Native American wigwam, or wetu, shelter on the grounds of the Coffin School. Kalin, whose website is www.primitivetechnologies.com, has built similar structures at Sturbridge Village and other museums throughout New York and New England. The construction and workshop were underwritten by a generous grant from Fleet Bank.
