The Starbuck-Kilvert House
In summer of 2003, the Nantucket Preservation Trust was delighted to present the Starbuck-Kilvert House and Garden to all who admire Nantucket’s remarkable historic architecture. 105 Main Street is an iconic Nantucket house and in it we were given a rare opportunity to experience a 17th century home as respectfully interpreted by the best of Nantucket’s interior designers. We are deeply grateful to the Kilvert family for giving us this opportunity.
The Starbuck-Kilvert Designer Show House held last summer brought attention to three important causes. First, we all hope that this architectural treasure, which is still for sale, will remain in the hands of a single family. Next, the designers’ talents showed us how the features of a 17th century house can be the basis of a charming and comfortable 21st century family home, thus encouraging others to retain and restore historic interiors on Nantucket. And finally, the Show House aided the mission of the Nantucket Preservation Trust, which is to protect Nantucket’s architectural heritage by education and advocacy in historic preservation.
