(1st floor) Dining room: Janice Aldridge, Inc.
The dining room at India House holds many happy memories for me as it does for many Nantucketers. As a private home the room will inevitably reflect a more personal aesthetic, but should be just as welcoming and hospitable to family and guests. The advantage of smaller rooms in many of Nantucket’s Historic Houses is to create the feeling of intimacy. In my own experience, the most successful dinner parties are those where the food is delicious, the room beautiful, the lighting flattering, and the seating overcrowded. In creating such a room to suit the ever-expanding Nantucket “season”, we have attempted to use colors and textures which would be both cool in the summer months and warming in the winter.
